Lex Fridman is a Russian-American computer scientist, artificial intelligence researcher, and podcast host. He is currently a researcher and lecturer at MIT. Although I have known him less than a year, I have a great respect for him. His thoughts and the originality of the questions he asked guests on podcasts made me feel like Lex is a very special person and I needed to pay more attention to him. In this article, we will talk about the video he made about how he spent his own day.

Lex prefers 6 to 8 hours of sleep and can sometimes take a half-hour nap at noon. After waking up, he begins the mantra. A mantra is a tool that helps people communicate with their brain for a purpose and aims to reach a higher level of consciousness. Meanwhile, he contemplates the possibility of dying that day, and it makes him feel more alive. Afterwards, he does a 4-hour uninterrupted deep study. Apart from drinking water and going to the bathroom, he focuses on the subject he chooses and works hard. After deep work, Lex plays music and posts on social media. He browses social media for 10 minutes just while creating a post. Then he exercises regularly and prefers running and body building as exercise. He also listens to podcasts while running. After the workout, he takes a shower and does a new 4-hour deep and uninterrupted study. He then eats a large meal and prefers to eat only one meal a day. After the meal, he does 4 more hours of work, but this work is more like shallow work session. In other words, there are things like video editing, checking mail, and there is also chilling. Then the 2-hour reading hour starts and he reads literature. He has another very good habit. That habit is to read one article every day. He prioritizes deep thinking and making new connections while reading the article. He does one more mantra before going to bed. He is grateful that he did not die today and for the beautiful moments of the day he lived.

One day Lex lived was incredibly productive, and I thought Lex actually lives 4–5 times longer than I do. It really doesn’t matter how long you live, it’s much more important what you did at that time. In this way, Lex has lived the life of maybe 4–5 people alone. Lex has conveyed to me very well the importance of living productively. I hope this article was helpful to you as well.
